The phylum Tardigrada is often classified as one of the “lesser-known” groups of protostomes. These micrometazoans may play an important role in the elucidation of metazoan phylogeny, with respect to the evolution of the arthropods.
Scientists believe that Tardigrades are more closely related to Arthropods; a phylum of animals with hard protective exoskeletons.
